CRYSPOM 2025

IX International Workshop on Crystallization in Porous Media
Barcelona, September 17-19th, 2025
The crystallization in porous media is found in a large number of natural and industrial processes and it occurs involving a wide variety of materials.
The CRYSPOM 2025 workshop will give the opportunity to bring together researchers and practitioners interested in the processes of precipitation and dissolution of crystals in porous media, as well as their consequences and final applications. These include, for instance, the damage induced by crystal growth to natural and artificial materials, or the use of crystallization for the manufacturing of new elements. The workshop will join together participants from different disciplines, such as geosciences, geoengineering, geology, physics, chemistry, geochemistry, mechanics, building materials, construction engineering, civil works, conservation, Heritage, bioengineering, medical and pharmaceutics.
One of the main objectives of the workshop is to promote practical and scientific discussions between researchers, practitioners and PhD students. It will allow to share experiences and advances in theoretical, numerical and experimental developments.
The biannual international workshop on Crystallization in Porous Media (CRYSPOM) has a long-standing tradition. Prof. Noushine Shahidzadeh founded the workshop in 2008 in Paris, and subsequent editions were celebrated in Brienz (Switzerland, 2010), Tróia (Portugal, 2012), Amsterdam (The Netherlands, 2014), Toulouse (France, 2016), Hamburg (Germany, 2018), Pau (France, 2021) and Ghent (Belgium, 2023). The next edition will be held in Barcelona (Spain) from September 17th to 19th, 2025. In the forthcoming Barcelona edition, an effort has been made to add some new additional topics of interest in the field of crystallization.
Topics covered (but not limited to)
- Fundamentals of salt and ice crystallization in porous or confined media
- Imaging of crystallization in porous media
- Coupled problems involving crystallization
- Crystal growth in energy applications
- Damage mechanisms induced by crystallization
- Preventive and protective treatments against salt weathering
- Crystal growth in concrete and other construction materials
- Crystallization in geology
- Crystallization in civil works
- Crystallization in Heritage monuments and buildings and Arts
- Applications of crystallization to bio-engineering
- Crystallization in medical applications
