POCRISC

POCRISC

European territorial cooperation project, co-financed by the FEDER Interreg fund 2014-2020 of the European Commission, that aims to foment a common culture of seismic risk in the Pyrenees, developing harmonised approximations to assess seismic risk for those who manage emergencies, encouraging the common and shared dissemination for authorities and the general public, and providing tools of support for decision-making purposes adapted to the needs of crisis managers.

POCRISC is a project that wishes to foment a common culture of seismic risk in the cross-border are that includes the regions of Catalonia, Occitania and Andorra. The project aims to improve knowledge of seismic risk, providing tools of support for surveillance strategies and risk mitigation, including raising awareness among the population, providing information, studies and results in seismic risk situations.

One of the main objectives of the project is to provide emergencies managers with a real-time assessment of the damage caused by an earthquake. An application is also expected for intelligent telephones to evaluate the seismic vulnerability of buildings and the post-seismic damage. The results of the project will be made available to the three cross-borders emergency management services through crisis exercises, training workshops for the use of tools developed and a post-seismic intervention drill.

Objectives and action plan

  • Advancing in the assessment, prevention and management of the seismic risk identified in the Pyrenees area.
  • Providing tools of support for surveillance strategies and risk mitigation, including raising awareness among the cross-border population.
  • Drawing up practical guides of seismic vulnerability for construction technicians and risk managers.
