Earthquake Engineering & Structural Dynamics

Most of the losses, either human or economic, due to earthquakes throughout history, were caused by the deficient seismic behavior of structures. This behavior can lead to partial and even total structural collapses, as well as the occurrence of collateral risks, such as fires or explosions, that could consequently increase these losses. Nevertheless, although current antiseismic regulations improve on a day to day basis, thanks to the information gathered from new research works and experience, catastrophic losses take place all over the world, even in those countries in which studies in seismic engineering are key.

The main objective of this Ph.D. program is to offer a highly specialized formation on the current contents, technological developments and research in the fields of seismology, earthquake engineering and structural dynamics. The program is aimed at writing quality doctoral thesis related to the research lines of the different groups cooperating with the program. These lines include earthquake generation, propagation and mitigation of earthquake waves, as well as the damage caused to structures and its mitigation.
